About Me

I’ve been in the illustration biz over 20 years. Many clients come to me when they have a complex or difficult idea to visualize, and I thrive on that process. My work inhabits a zone mid-way between fine art and illustration, and between digital and traditional methods. I consider myself an artistic alchemist; many themes in my art center on opposites being combined together: styles, digital/traditional, oil/water. Mysterium conjunctionis: My mac is an alchemical crucible.

My past clients have included: Chronicle of Higher Education • Brush Dance • MEBN • Current Psychology • Pomona College • Duke University • Wake Forest University • McDonalds • TIAA Cref • Connecticut Magazine • Scholastic Books • DK Publishing • Clarion • Harper Collins • Sanctuary Records • RCA Records • Dowden Health • St. Anthony Messenger • Discover Magazine • Hayhouse • MOAA • Johns Hopkins • Stylorouge • University of Pittsburgh • SDSU

About my process: My work is a combination of oil on canvas paintings, pencil and ink drawings, paint textures, photos, direct scans, all layered and combined in Photoshop. This gives me the freedom to combine oil and water media (ink, watercolor, acrylic paint) in a single image, and then add text, photos and line art into the mix. Working digitally allows me to realize my stylistic vision within the tighter time constraints of illustration deadlines. It also allows me to give the feel of physical human contact, interaction, and warmth to work created digitally.
